Practice & Production
We feel we are all responsible for how businesses today and tomorrow impact the planet. Since inception we have learned a lot and actively implement as much of what we learn into our business. Some things we are still learning and we will continue to learn and evolve our business so that we can do our part to keep the world that we share from ruin.
Employment
Our company would not be here without the people that are apart of it. We are a women owned business invested in the joy and success of every member of our team. Every employee is valued with family-friendly schedules and paid time off. Most of our pieces are currently made in house in our studio in New York where we work in one space together. We also work with two factories in LA and Vancouver that meet our ethical standards and pay seamstresses fair living wages. On average, our sewers are paid 68% over minimum wage.
Sourcing
We seek to partner with suppliers who share a common vision of sustainability, accountability and transparency. We currently require that suppliers meet our standards for: social responsibility, safe & non-toxic, and better materials.
Local Manufacturing
We keep manufacturing local. Currently 100% of our manufacturing (cut and sew) is done in New York. We only work with factories that share our practice and production standards.
Packaging & Supplies
From designing to shipping, wherever possible we try to use materials that can be recycled or are compostable. For our shipping packaging we use compostable mailers from NoIssue, and recycled cardboard shipping boxes from Eco Enclose.
Waste Management
We recycle/compost 80% of garbage from our studio, this does not include fabric scraps of which 100% are recycled through local textile recycling companies.
We believe luxury shouldn’t be wasteful. Our clothes are made of high quality fabrics and craftsmanship to have longevity and be timeless. We want our customers to wear and keep the pieces for a long time if not a lifetime. Where the customer no longer wants to keep a piece, or it has become damaged, please gift items to a friend or family member or send to a consignment shop/used clothing retailer.
We are always looking to better ourselves. If you have any suggestions or sourcing partnership enquiries please get in touch at hello@miyoko.co, we would love to hear from you.
